Configurable thresholds for the wasted spend detectors
Writing this up properly as promised in an earlier thread.
The zero-conversion keyword detector needs at least 30 clicks and at least $25 of cost. Both
of those are sensible defaults and both are wrong for a vertical where a single click costs
£40. By the time a keyword of ours has 30 clicks it has spent well over a thousand pounds,
and the detector has been silent for the whole of that.
The same logic runs the other way for someone spending 20p a click, who probably wants a
higher bar than 30 clicks before anything is called dead.
What I would like is the cost floor and the click floor set per account. Not per user, per
account, because the right answer is a property of the vertical rather than of who is logged
in.
I would also accept a much simpler version: express the cost floor as a multiple of the
account's average CPC rather than as a fixed number. That adapts automatically and needs no
configuration at all, which is probably a better feature than the one I'm asking for.
Related but separate, and I'll not muddle them: an ad that's deliberately low
click-through should be mutable on the underperforming ads check. Different request, happy to
write it up on its own if useful.
